On the 20th of August, representatives of the Administration, tourism, construction and environmental organisations discussed the development of Teriberka Nature Park at the Regional Management Centre. Further improvement of the park will undoubtedly add to the region's tourist appeal, but it also comes with additional environmental risks. This includes seabird colonies, which are very sensitive to extraneous noise and presence of strangers on their territory during nesting period. Ornithologist Anastasia Gurba together with Svetlana Malavenda (Cand.Sc., biology) emphasised the need for consultations with the scientific community in the formation of tourist routes and the construction of tourist facilities.
Denis Moiseyev, MMBI Deputy Director for Science, stated that conditions are currently developing for the emergence of a new cultural code for Teriberka. If earlier there was a cultural code associated with fishing and fish processing, now it is completely related to tourism. In conclusion of the event Denis Vitalievich said that it is necessary to develop a programme of integrated environmental monitoring by joint efforts of MMBI RAS and KSC RAS. For this purpose it is necessary to provide appropriate financing within the framework of the Nature Park development.
