At the moment, in terms of macroeconomic stabilization of the country, one of MMBI’s priorities is to train highly skilled and talented youth in the sphere of science. Currently, there are 100 researchers, including 1 academician, 1 corresponding member of Russian Academy of Sciences, 17 doctors and 42 candidates of sciences in MMBI. 43 research assistants are young scientists and specialists (under 35 years). In 2004, four young professionals, graduates, including 2 - university graduates, which has basic MMBI department were employed in the Institute. The Institute greeted 16 students for summer and externship at different periods of the year.
Leadership of the Institute actively supports and assists young researchers in their creative growth and the achievement of specific scientific results, and welcomes staff of the Institute to work at leading universities. In 2004, 23 employees of MMBI shared their experience and knowledge with students and graduates of Murmansk State Pedagogical University (MSPU), Murmansk State Technical University (MSTU), Rostov State University (RSU) and Rostov State Pedagogical University (RSPU). The Institute continued to engage actively with state institutions of Murmansk. 10 MMBI employees were involved in the basic departments of MSPU and MSTU. On scientific stations of MMBI (Biological Station in Dalniye Zelentsy, experimental base in Sayda-Guba, Oceanarium, coast expeditionary base in Kagalnik, RV "Dalniye Zelentsy") in the reporting year undergraduate and graduate students of Kazan State University, St. Petersburg State University, Rostov State University, Murmansk State Pedagogical University, Murmansk State Technical University, IEE RAS, Murmansk cooperative College conducted researches. Practice leadership was performed by employees of the MMBI. These events were held within interagency agreements with universities.
In order to get better integration with universities, a joint meeting of the Academic Council of the Institute and Murmansk State Pedagogical University occurred in February 2004. Presentations were made by the rector of Murmansk State Pedagogical University Professor R.I. Tripolskiy and dean of natural ecological faculty E.G. Mitin. Possibility of joint participation in the scientific and integration programs was discussed. Possibility of opening new specialty on natural ecological faculty of MSPU "Fishery" was considered.
As part of young scientists work plan MMBI held two scientific events: XXII Conference of Young Scientists and Third National Workshop on Marine Biology "Parasitology and parasitic system of marine organisms" in 2004.
