"Integrated Studies of Spitsbergen Nature and Adjacent Shelf 2026",

dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Consulate General of Russia on Spitsbergen

& the 95th anniversary of State Trust "Arktikugol"

 

Murmansk Marine Biological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences invites you to take part in the work of the XVII International Scientific Conference "Integrated Studies of Spitsbergen Nature and Adjacent Shelf 2026". It's organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, JSC Marine Arctic Geological Expedition (MAGE), the Government of the Murmansk region, Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), Consulate General of Russia on Spitsbergen, State Trust "Arktikugol", Kola Science Centre RAS and Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society. During the conference, it is planned to address the most important aspects of scientific research on the Spitsbergen archipelago and the adjacent shelf, to discuss plans and scientific programs for further work, issues of international cooperation, etc.

  • Marine and terrestrial ecosystems and their components, ecosystem sustainability;
  • Climate change, its dynamics and impacts;
  • Biological resources, biodiversity and ecosystem productivity;
  • Pollutants in Spitsbergen ecosystems and adjacent shelf: sources, routes of pollution and impacts;
  • Geophysical research;
  • Glaciological research, periglacial phenomena and processes;
  • Geology, geodynamics and paleogeography;
  • Archaeological research;
  • Instruments and research methods in the Spitsbergen archipelago region;
  • Spitsbergen biomedical research;
  • Education and science;
  • The history of Russian presence on the Spitsbergen archipelago.

 

Presentation Forms:

plenary reports – 25 min;
sectional reports – 15 min.

Presentation languages: RU and ENG.
Forms of participation: offline and online.

 

Key Dates:

  • acception of applications – until September 1, 2026;
  • submission of abstracts – till September 15, 2026;
  • conference program distribution – October 25, 2026;
  • participants arrival and registration – November 9, 2026.

 Abstracts will be published by the conference beginning.


 

Guidelines for conference abstract submission:

  • Abstracts must not exceed 2 pages in length, without figures or tables, typed in Times New Roman font, size 12 with single spacing.

  • Accepted formats: MS Word 2003 or later (without styles or macros) or RTF.

  • References should be listed alphabetically (without numbering) after the main text.

  • Citations should be put in round brackets (Surname N., 2005).

  1. ABSTRACT TITLE (IN CAPS)
  2. Author's surname and initials (in both Russian and English)
  3. Institutional affiliation (full name)
  4. E-mail

Abstracts that fail to comply with these guidelines, or submitted after the deadline, or fall outside the conference theme scope will not be considered.


 

Registration Fee:

A registration fee of 6000 Rubles is required. These funds will cover coffee breaks and the conference proceedings publication. Visa support is additionally provided for foreign participants.

Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. Information about Murmansk hotels is available via the provided link. Please check room availability for required dates independently.
