On September 18-20, the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted the international scientific and practical conference “BRICS Regional Cooperation: Modern Problems of Ecology and Nature Management”. Specialists from the BRICS countries discussed biodiversity conservation, rational use of resources, regional experience in industrial ecology and green economy, climate change problems and other contemporary issues. According to Olga Bakhmet, KarRC RAS Acting Director, the scientists gathered to share the results of their work, as well as to establish permanent interaction between different regional scientific spheres in our country and to build long-term cooperation within the BRICS countries.
МMBI RAS Director, Dr. Mikhail Makarov together with Nikolay Filatov, KarRC RAS Acting Director Advisor, Dr. Nikolay Filatov moderated the section “Study of water bodies and terrestrial ecosystems under climate change and anthropogenic impact in the BRICS countries”. He also made a report on “MMBI RAS research on the impact of climate change on the Arctic seas biocenoses”.
