"EcoEd" at the Murmansk Science Library

8 октября 2024

From the 2th to 18th of October, the Murmansk Scientific Library is hosting a cycle of "EcoEd" (Ecological Education) events. It's program includes lectures, intellectual games and master classes.

Participants of the events will learn about affects of our daily life on the ecological situation and what we can do to become allies of nature, about alternative energy sources, useful eco habits, technologies that help mankind to protect the environment; and they will be able to test their ecological knowledge.

The events also included a popular science lecture "Garbage in the Arctic: the way to a clean Ocean" by Denis Moiseev, MMBI Deputy Director for Science. The audience got acquainted with the incredibly serious problem of the World Ocean and Arctic seas pollution by garbage, especially plastic. Global plastic production currently stands at about 450 million tons, of which about 9 million end up in the ocean. There are well-founded fears that if the current trend continues, by 2050 there may be more plastic in the oceans than fish by weight. The solution to the issue will be a new global paradigm on marine litter, and as many countries as possible should be involved in the fight against it.
