On September 9-13, the Scientific Conference with international participation «Fundamental and applied aspects of adaptation of living organisms to changing environmental conditions of the North: research, innovations, and prospects» was held in Petrozavodsk. Scientists from all over the country gathered in the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences to discuss contemporary issues of adaptation mechanisms of terrestrial and aquatic animals, plants and humans to various environmental factors, diversity and dynamics of ecosystems, rational nature management in the North and biotechnology.
Leading researcher of the MMBI Laboratory of Ichthyology and Physiology Dr. Larisa Karamushko - together with Dr. Svetlana Khurtina, Candidate of Biological Sciences, KarRC RAS - has lead the section «Ecology, Physiology and Biochemistry of Aquatic Organisms» as a chairperson. She also presented her report «Growth efficiency, entropy and adaptation in polar marine fish species» (prepared with Karamushko O.V., Chaus S.A.). In the section «Ecology, Physiology and Biochemistry of Plants», Inna Ryzhik, Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Algology, Candidate of Biological Sciences, made a presentation «Endogenous rhythms of biochemical processes of plants of the intertidal zone of the Murmansk coast of the Barents Sea» (prepared with Dobychina E.O., Klindukh M.P.). Also in the poster section was presented «Comparative analysis of nutrition of three species of fish of the genus Liparis from the Laptev and East Siberian seas» by Elena Smirnova, a researcher from the Laboratory of Ichthyology and Physiology.
