Under the program of international visits (IVLP) ) in the period from 16th of April to 6th of May events were held in the United States, entitled "Protection of the Arctic environment, and innovative solutions for the prevention and elimination of oil pollution". Contractor of the program was World Learning, sponsored by the US State Department. СFrom the Russian side: Vashchenko Pavel (Murmansk Marine Biological Institute, Murmansk), Vragova Elena (Interregional Institute of advanced technologies, Novosibirsk), Ivanov Ivan Stepanovich (Committee to Save Pechora, Nizhniy Odes), Rudakov Andrey (Maritime Rescue Service, Murmansk), Stepchenkov Svyatoslav Konstantinovich (Transport Department of the Office of the Northern sea Route, Moscow), Marina A. Chikovani (Lukoil, Moscow) participated in the program. The program included meetings with representatives of the US federal government, private rescue units, specialized institutions, leading environmental research related to the risk of oil spills in the Arctic, indigenous people living in areas with rapidly growing production of petroleum hydrocarbons, as well as a number of other organizations. During meetings, participants in the program and representatives of the host environment discussed the problems and best practices in addressing issues related to potential oil spills in the Arctic.
