The Atlas of Mammal Distribution in the European Part of Russia has been published – the first publication in Russia to summarize information collected over the entire period of theriological observations in the country. The book was prepared by a team of 89 specialists from scientific organizations in various Russian cities. This group included MMBI RAS Marine Mammal Laboratory Senior Researchers Vladislav Svetochev and Olga Svetocheva.
The Atlas presents distribution maps for 202 mammal species. For the first time, 85 ecological range models are published for widely distributed species. Furthermore, the book contains interactive maps with all specific sighting points of mammals on the "Mammals of Russia" portal.
The publication is intended for a wide range of readers – from zoologists to amateur naturalists. The Atlas contains data for solving environmental conservation tasks, conducting epizootiological work, organizing measures to control agricultural and forestry pests, sustainable use of game resources, university teaching, and educating amateur naturalists of all ages.
