The expedition took place from 21st of June to 16th of July 2016 in the central part of the Barents Sea in Demidov, Fersman, Medvegy, Ludlov and Ledovy areas and license areas of seismic work on the development of petroleum hydrocarbons. These expeditions are an extension of environmental monitoring in the Barents Sea Programme in the years 2015-2016. The purpose of field work is organization of an effective system of local environmental monitoring that monitors environmental state within licensed areas, to obtain information necessary to ensure rational and environmentally natural resources management, intensify implementation of forecast, emergence and development of negative processes and phenomena.
Research group consisted of 16 experts from Murmansk Marine Biological Institute, invited expert from LLC "FRECOM" for air sampling on the presence of pollutants and supervisor. During the expedition on 5 license areas 52 complex stations with sampling and 52 ichthyologic trawling was performed. Samples of sea water, soil and biota for pollutants analysis in water of licensed areas were taken. Meteorological observations and visual observations of marine mammals and avifauna were also carried out.
