Scientists of MMBI participated in several events of the scientific forum and discussed matters of science, culture and education, business, environmental and radiation safety, policy cross-border cooperation in the Barents Region countries, including the exchange of scientific information.
At the International Arctic Student Forum (Arctic Student Forum) (25-28 January 2016) D.V. Moisees was a moderator of the scientific section, he presented analytical review of reports at the final session.
January 27, 2016 (14:00) a working meeting on Svalbard was held, which was attended by academician G.G. Matishov and professor P.R. Makarevich. The main theme of the seminar was development of Svalbard as a center for international cooperation in the sphere of science and education and establishment, in cooperation with the Research Council of Norway's annual symposium on the Svalbard archipelago as part of the "Arctic Frontiers". The symposium is to start work in 2017 and become the central international event, which will focus on the further development of Svalbard as an international research and educational world-class center. Presentations by the main scientific "players" on Svalbard were made at the seminar. Director of the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute presented a report on research work that the Institute has been carried out in the archipelago for more than 35 years.
In the panel discussion “Open Arctic” (January 27, 2016; 17:00) academician G.G. Matishov made a presentation «MMBI radioecological studies in the arctic region (1988-2015)».
A working meeting of the delegation from MMBI SSC RAS and the leadership of "Akvaplan Niva" (January 27, 2016, 10:00) was held during a scientific forum. Prospects of new joint projects, such as continuation of research in the Andreeva Bay and work in the Svalbard archipelago area.
