MMBI RAS Begins Preparations for the 6th BRICS Working Group Meeting on Ocean and Polar Research

12 апреля 2024

The 6th Meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Ocean and Polar Research and Technologies will take place in Murmansk from June 13 to 15, 2024. This event falls under Russia’s 2024 chairmanship of the expanded BRICS association.

Arctic research holds significant importance in BRICS activities, with the Working Group operating since 2018. Priority research areas identified by the group include modern observation and forecasting technologies for ocean and climate changes, along with the viability of marine ecosystems. The active interest of BRICS participants in conducting joint research directly in the Arctic will positively influence the implementation of multilateral scientific projects across multiple domains. These include sustainable development and local infrastructure development, innovation implementation, healthcare improvement, responsible natural resource management, and the preservation of Arctic marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

To discuss effective organization of this regionally significant event, a planning meeting was held at MMBI on April 12, which included:
