June 29-30, 2015, international scientific seminar "Safety problems of the Kola Peninsula coastal ecosystems" was held in the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute KSC RAS .

The seminar was organized together with Akvaplan-Niva (Tromso, Norway) within the framework of the project "Present Radio-Ecological Situation in Andreeva Bay and adjacent offshore zones". There were 10 oral presentations. Scientific event was held in the form of public hearing. Besides speakers - contractors of the project, there were over 40 officials from various stakeholders scientific, industrial, environmental and conservational organizations, representatives of the administration and ministries of the Murmansk region, military participants of the forum. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute director Academician G.G. Matishov and director Akvaplan-Niva S. Dale. Welcoming speeches and presentations were made by the responsible person: director of IAZ corresponding member of RAS D.G. Matishov, head of the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority department Inger Eikelmann, Secretary of the Public Council for Safe Use of Nuclear Energy in Murmansk Oblast S.N. Zhavoronkin, Head of Project Office "Elimination of Nuclear Legacy in the Arctic" FSUE RosRAO V.A. Handobin. Revalent questions of Russian-Norwegian cooperation in the radioactive contamination of environment monitoring were discussed on the seminar. Russian and Norwegian scientists reported the first results of joint Norwegian-Russian expedition to the Kara and Barents Seas, results of inlets and bays of the Kola Peninsula field studies in 2013-2014. The main discussion topic was assessment of the current state of marine biota in Andreeva Bay and the Motovsky Bay of the Barents Sea radioactive contamination.
