Murmansk Marine Biological Institute KSC RAS celebrated its 80 years anniversary in March 2015. Institute began with the founding of Murmansk Biological Station of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR established by decision of the CPC on March 10, 1935, in the Dalnyaya Zelenetskaya Bay of the Barents Sea. Murmansk Marine Biological Institute is a close-knit team of marine biologists, geologists, oceanographers, chemists, ecologists, engineers and technicians, who, based on historical experience and long tradition, conducts comprehensive research of Arctic and southern European seas for many years.
Murmansk Marine Biological Institute declared itself as a hero of the day on international scientific conference "Arctic marine management in XXI century – modern scientific balance between tradition and innovation (dedicated to 80-years anniversary of the MMBI KSC RAS)" (Murmansk, 1-3 April, 2015) and the XVI International Fishery Exhibition "Sea. Resources. Technologies - 2015" (Murmansk, 17-19 March 2015). To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Institute staff prepared a collective monograph "Marine ecosystems and communities in a modern climate change", which was published in 2014.
The conference was attended by 185 participants, representing the scientific, educational, scientific and industrial organizations of Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Rostov-on-Don, Murmansk, Apatity, Monchegorsk). Proceedings of the conference ("Arctic marine management in XXI century – modern scientific balance between tradition and innovation (dedicated to 80-years anniversary of the MMBI KSC RAS)": Proceedings of scientific Conference, Murmansk, 1-3 April 2015. Apatity. KSC, 275 pp.) include summaries of 155 reports submitted on behalf of 40 organizations of Russia and other countries (Norway, France).
90 scientific papers, including 9 plenary, 64 oral and 17 poster presentations with results and objectives of research resources of the Arctic region in the main areas of academic science were listened to and discussed during the meeting: dynamics and evolution of populations, communities and ecosystems in the face of global climate change and anthropogenic pressure; species diversity and productivity in biotic systems; managing and protecting the marine environment; preservation and restoration of biocenosis at high latitudes; current research in the field of marine geology and paleoecology; oceanographic processes in the Arctic Seas; history and contemporary issues of marine research expeditions in the Arctic; anthropogenic environment of the Arctic region.
