International Scientific-Business Conference POLAR 2024

20 июня 2024

On May 16, the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute hosted the International Scientific-Business Conference POLAR 2024, commemorating the 190th anniversary of Russia's Hydrometeorological Service. This landmark event brought together scientists, federal government representatives, major businesses, and NGOs specializing in Arctic and Antarctic operations.

After extensive technical work, our AARI colleagues have recently published high-quality video recordings of conference sessions in both Russian and English:
- Antarctic Session "Antarctica: Science at the Edge of the World": Part 1, Part 2
- International Session "Poles of Attraction"
- Arctic Session "Specialized Hydrometeorological Support System for NSR Maritime Operations and Its Requirements"
- Arctic Session "Spitzbergen: Opportunities for Young Scientists"

The Spitzbergen session was moderated by Denis Moiseev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Research Centre in Svalbard and MMBI RAS Deputy Director. He opened the session with a presentation on the Center's decade-long achievements and its youth development strategy. Young scientists then presented their Spitzbergen research findings and answered colleagues' questions.

The conference concluded with a working meeting on developing an interdepartmental permafrost monitoring system concept and a special screening of the documentary "North Pole: The Return." The conference program is available via link.
