FIFTEENTH INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE FOR STUDENTS AND POST-GRADUATES “PROBLEMS OF THE ARCTIC REGION” MURMANSK»

Scientific Conferences continued efforts to organize a permanent scientific conference for students and graduate students, with aims to study processes in the Arctic region, improving educational level and attracting talented young people to work in science, industry and higher education.

The conference was organized and attended by members, graduate students and students of the KSC Institutes and basic chairs at universities of Kola region, students and young scientists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Arkhangelsk, Sevastopol, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Chelyabinsk, Yakutia, Vladivostok, friendly organizations in Norway and Germany. Welcoming words of the first deputy director of the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute for Science Professor P.R. Makarevich and Director of IG KSC professor J.L. Voytekhovsky were followed by the leading expert zoologist of MMBI N.N. Panteleeva plenary lecture "Cnidarians research in MMBI: past and present". Conference program consisted of 149 papers from 232 authors total. The conference was divided on 7 sections: "Biology and Medicine" (24 reports), "Geology and Geophysics of the Arctic region. Physical and chemical and technological problems" (22 reports), "Humanitarian and social issues. Economic problems of the North" (17 reports), "Information Technology and Mathematical Methods" (22 reports), "Marine biology" (24 reports), "Problems of education in the Arctic region" (18 reports) and "Ecology of the North" (22 reports ). Jury allocated the most interesting reports in section, whose authors were awarded with diplomas and memorable gifts.

Results of the conference were as follows: students have been learned to do presentations at international conferences; abstracts of reports were released on CD; students were acquainted with the current state of scientific problems in the Arctic region; winners and the most outstanding representatives of student youth were identified; experience of international conferences was accumulated; the basis for future conferences and other similar events in the region was prepared.
