After adoption of new provision "Regulations on Council for theses defense for the candidate of sciences degree, doctor of science degree" approved by Order of the Ministry of Education on January 13, 2014 № 7, Murmansk Marine Biological Institute held the first meeting of Dissertation Council D 002.140.01 after the recast. Colleague from the Southern Scientific Center E.P. Oleynikov defended his dissertation "Research of cranial and molecular genetic markers of seal population diversity (Pusa caspica Gmelin, 1788) in the Caspian Sea" for the degree of candidate of biological sciences in the specialty 25.00.28 "oceanography".
These results extend dissertator theoretical understanding of the biology of Caspian seals - intraspecific polymorphism and specify the data type certification of population, that is important to assess genetic diversity of population. Results of the thesis can be included in lecture courses on marine mammal zoology and ecology of fisheries of universities and biological faculties, exploitation and protection of marine animals, as well as included in regulatory documents.
