On June 24-29, Apatity town hosted the VIII All-Russian Scientific Conference with international participation, marking the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 35th anniversary of the Institute of North Industrial Ecology Problems KSC RAS.
Key discussion topics included terrestrial ecosystems under natural and anthropogenic pressures, current trends in Arctic aquatic ecosystem changes, sustainable Arctic development, biodiversity studies and conservation in taiga and Arctic areas, natural resource protection.
MMBI was represented by Head Researcher of the Plankton Laboratory Professor Pavel Makarevich, who presented a report "Current Trends in Variability of Pelagic and Benthic Biocenoses in the Barents Sea." Online presentations were also given by researchers from the Ornithology and Parasitology Laboratory:
- "Status and Changes of Avifauna in Northern Seas of European Russia" (Yuri Krasnov, Alexey Ezhov),
- "Current Data on Seabird and Waterbird Populations near Teriberka" (Anastasia Gurbа)
