At the end of May 2016 the research vessel of MMBI "Dalnie Zelentsy" is back after a comprehensive high-latitude expedition to the Barents Sea. The expedition was carried out in two stages and lasted almost two months (from 5th of April to 30th of May, 2016) with a short setting of the vessel in the port of registry in early May. The purpose of the expedition was maritime monitoring, collection of data for comprehensive analysis and forecast of oceanographic and ecosystem processes in marginal and coastal zones, in context of secular "Kola Meridian", as well as along the coast of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. Research group consisted of 17 MMBI experts. Oceanographic and hydrochemical work, study of benthic and planktonic communities, observations of marine mammals and birds were conducted. Sea water samples for analysis of radionuclides content in the Barents Sea were taken. A total of 120 sample stations were carried out during the expedition, including 5 daily. The uniqueness of this expedition is that studies were conducted in marginal zone in spring.
