Today is a significant day for Russia's scientific institutions. Exactly three hundred years ago on February 8, 1724 (January 28 in the old calendar), Emperor Peter I established the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, which later became the Russian Academy of Sciences. These three centuries represent an immense journey undertaken by thousands of science practitioners – a path of meticulous work, major and minor discoveries, continuity and new beginnings. On behalf of MMBI RAS, we congratulate our colleagues and everyone passionate about Russian science!
To mark the occasion, MMBI Director Mikhail Makarov and Marine Mammals Laboratory researcher Miron Pakhomov gave an extensive interview on GTRK "Murman" program "Morning of Russia". They discussed the beginnings of northern pinniped research, current institute projects, and shared exciting news from the aquatic test site.
